Eduardo Pineda: Centripetal Heart
Curatorial statement
In the last issue of OD-CAP I spoke about artist interventions. In the spirit of encouraging viewers to seek out and find creative people and the artwork that they create, we will continue to include conversations or galleries with/by people whose more public face is in an art related field like curators of art or education, exhibition designers, writers or editors, directors of a gallery or development. Eduardo Pineda is known to many of his colleagues in the museum world as a curator of education but he is also a muralist and photographer. In his own words, he discusses the evolution of his work as an artist.
"Centripetal Heart is an initial selection of images that engage love, a boundless muse. From the tenderness between individuals to the overwhelming empathy for humanity, that selflessness and closeness forever inspires me and I look for it in the vitality of life. The images presented in this gallery were taken over the past twenty years, however I have never exhibited them until 2008, with my transition from full time museum educator back to art practitioner. I use the narrative and documentary aspects of photography in my work. I find subject matter in daily routines, significant historical events, and physical phenomena. I like to construct photographs like performances. If children play games to have fun and to learn, I continue the games in my adulthood in order to feel free and continue to develop. In addition, I find perceptual experience to be engaging and expressive. The mystery of physical phenomena provides an opportunity to rationalize the world, perceive it deeper, and expand the interpretation of reality."
